Individuals
and couples are increasingly troubled with problems of sexual function.
The changing times and other societal forces are allowing people to be
more open about their sexual issues as never before. Now healthcare
workers have more tools, knowledge and understanding to apply to these
problems. However, this area is not comprehensively included in present
healthcare worker education, and existing creditable resources are rare
and disconnected. This is particularly true between psychological and
medical services.
We believe
that there is an increasing need for a resource that addresses sexual
problems, and includes the psyche as well as the
soma in an integrated and comprehensive fashion. Increasingly it
is becoming clear that many of these sexual problems have an organic or
physical basis, which can respond to specific treatments and therapies.
Yet the psyche is always involved and must be addressed in order to
provide a total solution. The Sexual Wellness Group was formed to
address these needs.
